The perfect bed is meant to be experienced

Matri House is backed by Matri, a Finnish family company known for crafting exceptionally comfortable, high-quality, and sustainable beds. That’s why, instead of standard hotel beds, every room at Matri House features luxurious Matri beds that gently conform to the body’s movements and adapt to its shape.

Our Boutique stay was founded on the idea that the best way to find your dream bed is by experiencing it firsthand. Spending an entire night in a calm and restful environment offers a unique opportunity for guests interested in Matri beds to test a bed designed to be a long-term companion. Matri beds are built to last at least a decade, and we want each one to be a perfect match for its sleeper.

Most of all, we hope that every guest enjoys a truly restful night’s sleep in our beds. It brings us great joy and pride to know that mornings at Matri House begin with renewed energy and a refreshed spirit.

The Story of Matri House

Matri House found its home in 2022 in the historic ironworks village of Mathildedal, Salo. Originally built in 1840, the Raasepori House was once home to eight ironworks workers’ families. The extensive renovation of this protected building was carefully planned with respect for its original structures and in collaboration with the Finnish Heritage Agency. The restoration preserved and highlighted the building’s original charm, from wooden floors to the upstairs cabinetry, while incorporating fresh, modern details.

Completed in summer 2023, Matri House is a place where history meets timeless design.

Instead of following trends, the interior design was guided by timelessness and an element of surprise. New furniture was sourced from sustainable and high-quality manufacturers such as Saari Kitchens, Lundia, Fredericia, Sika Design, and Hay, complemented by carefully selected vintage treasures that add character and delight.

The luxurious Matri beds, which adapt to the body’s shape and movements, complete the immersive and inspiring atmosphere. Matri House feels like a home more beautiful than everyday life—a place to pause, rest, and recharge, where you will always want to return.

Sustainability

At Matri House, sustainability is at the core of everything we do—from restoration and interior design to daily operations. The building’s thermal insulation has been modernized, and a new air-to-water heat pump enhances energy efficiency. During restoration, we used breathable, plastic-free paints from Uula Color to maintain the integrity of the structure.

Our interior design philosophy prioritizes environmental responsibility, ethical choices, and circular economy principles. Instead of opting for short-lived trends, we focus on classic, timeless design from brands that value environmental well-being. Matri beds are handcrafted in our own factory, using ecologically sourced and certified materials. In addition, Matri House is brought to life with countless unique vintage pieces, adding character and sustainability to our spaces.

We sort and recycle all waste generated from our operations and minimize our carbon footprint by reducing laundry needs. We also encourage long-term guests to be mindful of the environment by extending towel and linen usage.

For breakfast, we carefully select local, organic ingredients whenever possible, as well as vegan options. To reduce food waste, we focus on quality over quantity, offering a thoughtful and indulgent dining experience rather than excess.
